TEN NIGERIAN ARTISTS THAT ROCKED THE GAME IN 2011

TEN NIGERIAN ARTISTS THAT ROCKED THE GAME IN 2011

2011 has come and almost gone. And during the course of the year, some songs that made us go Gaga! While other outstanding ones made our hearts pound out of excitement!
And of course, we know that these beautiful songs wouldn’t have been possible with some great artistes behind them. Their songs rocked clubs, parties, concerts, making this year music-fun filled… Milounge Entertainment Compiles the Top 10 artiste in Nigeria for 2011.

DBANJ:
Since the Koko Master made his debut into the industry, he’s never failed to dazzle his fans with irresistible songs. All from the stable of MO ‘Hit records, his‘ boss’, Don Jazzy keeps imprinting magical beats and rhythm to make D’banj one of Nigeria’s best artistes.
This year has been an event-filled one for the dude, as he’s been seen jetting out of the country on several occasion. Financially, it has also been a rewarding one for him, as he also signed deals worth millions of dollars. And just October this year, he unleashed an Aston Martin Vantage car with only two doors.
This year, he also struck a record deal with one of America’s top rated artistes cum producer, Kayne West. But before then, he released a single, Mr Endowed, with award winning American singer, Snoop Dog and not to forget the single Oliver twist.
He still continues to make wave as an artiste who has proven his worth.

WIZKID
He was faced with too many controversies through the year, ranging from impregnating an undergraduate, to allegedly stealing the Pakurumo song, to the internet naked picture scandal, the rumoured affair between him and sexy actress Tonto Dike and other ‘illicit’ affair-he’s sure got a bagful of scandals rocking his back.
But aside his scandalous stuffs, career-wise; he was one of those artistes that rocked the year. He performed at many shows and concerts like the FAB Night Out, Big Brother Amplified Finale and a host of others. Wizzy also made cameo appearances in other artistes, making him one of the artistes with numerous collabos in the year.
His singles that rocked this year include Wiz Party, Love My Baby, Pakurumo, and Don’t Dull in fact his whole album #Gbam

TIWA SAVAGE
As if coming from the blues, Tiwa made a debut into the industry just last year. Her first single, Kele Kele Love made a huge hit, shooting her straight into the league of A-list artistes in the country. After her first singles, she’ performed at countless concerts in and outside the country.
She’s also earned herself some cool cash and is one of the most rated female acts in the country at the moment. Her second single, Love Me Love Me is also a sensational track which has continued to make wave.
In the course of the year, she got nominated for the Grammy Award in the best R&B album category. And just this month, she just dropped another track ‘Without My Heart’, featuring Don Jazzy himself. Wow! She’s still smoky hot and sure ready to take us by storm next year?

M.I
M.I, one of the Chocolate City boys is definitely an act to be reckoned with. When it comes to rap music, he ranks as the No.1 in the country. He picks his words one after the other, sending the songs straight to bed.
Number One, Beef, Action Film, One Naira, Epic and others were some of his singles that made wave in the year.

ICE PRINCE
Ice Prince was introduced into the musical scene with his monster hit track, Oleku in2010. Since then Ice Prince has not rested on his loins, he released his highly anticipated album in October 2011 and was a supporting act for the Afro beat festival in UK

OMAWUNMI
She never ceases to dazzle with her strong vocal voice. Her debut single, In The Music, a song with the South African rhythm, shot her to limelight. Since then, she kept releasing songs after songs.
This year, her song, If You Ask Me became an instant hit-a song people thought stemmed out of her personal experience. But she proved pundits wrong, saying it was an experience of a young barrack girl!

PSQUARE
P-Square
The two brothers of P-Square, Peter and Paul have become a house hold name in Nigeria and beyond. Aside their music prowess, their choreography is also another part where fans get hooked. Their eclectic performances make them a force to be reckoned with in the country.
Not counting their success in the industry over the years, this year too was one of immeasurable success for them. Their singles Chop My Money, Bu Nie Ya Enu and Forever added to their many successes.

2face Idibia
TUFACE
Tubaba is one artist that is always blazing the trail, a Legend in his own right. Arguably the Nigerian artist of the century his unique style is one with no duplicate.
His singles Implication only me, Enter the place rocked the clubs, parties, events and capped them all with awesome videos. The awards he got both local and international further buttressed his relevance in the music industry.

Olamide
OLAMIDE/DAVIDO
Davido
Both Olamide and Davido took this year by storm with their singles Eni duro (Olamide) & Back when (Davido) and quickly followed them up with Omo to Shan (Olamide) & Damiduro (Davido), trust me these two are the ones to watch out for in 2012. @miloungeboss says so.

Solid Star

SOLIDSTAR
With his debut track into the music scene One in a million girl ft. Tuface we all knew he had loads to give us all. After a earlier quiet part of the year, the Achievas Entertainment artist dropped the Bomb shell Omotena which took us all by surprise and became more like a national anthem. Now he has released two more singles I DON SHOW & TOUCH ME and both are already club bangers. 2012 is surely SOLID for this STAR.

How did music starts for you?

I picked up a pen and paper, penned down 16 wack bars at the age of 12..lol, but my roomates in d hostel liked em...that's how it started..·

Did it ever get to a point where anything challenged your career as an artiste?

Yeah, a lot, money mostly, but God always dey my side..·

For other upcoming artiste out there, what would be your advice to them?

it would be this 'if you are SURE you have the talent, keep at it, and ask God to lead you, if not, become a doctor or sumn' lol·

Music over school or school over music?

Can't choose, they are dependent on each other... So, school and music :)·

There’s apparently too much controversy on which Nigeria’s Rapper is King. Who would you give it to?

Peter Clarke! #rraaaah! Lol·

So you changing the game, making an impact or you just going passing through it?

All three, the impact I'm gonna make WILL change the game, and of course I'm mortal so I'm passing through, others will come after me :)·

Nigeria music in the next ten years?

hard to say, trends will surely differ from what we have today though.·

What artiste in the industry is effortlessly raising the standard and how?
·

This is a hard question, but they're several, Asa, Killz, Psquare, Dbanj, etc.. How? By being great Personalities. Lol
What would be the most challenging thing in the industry for new generation artiste such as you?

Well, that would be getting people to accept our music.·

Established artiste owes new school artiste such as you a platform?

And how you do believe they do.- I don't believe anybody owes anybody anything.·

Most new school artiste aren’t making radio songs, or making music for the relevancy of it, but they rather do commercial music. Do you agree with this and what stands you out from these allegations?

We make relevant music, but, the market for music would pick a commercial track over a conscious track anyday.. So I don't agree.·

Commercial music seems to be the way out! Do you think it’s healthy for the industry and explain to us why your opinion Is so.-

its healthy for the industry, because, its what brings the money into the industry, without commercial music, thered be no industry, shikena.·

Do you and your mgt have any plan to push the industry forward?-

of course, its World Famous Akademy! Lol, jst watch out!·

Reviewing the route, radio fm goes through on the air play of new school artiste songs, do you think it’s been fair and what would your opinion be?

I think its almost fair, they can do better..·

What can be done by radio fm’s to support artiste such as you?

Play my song every hour! Lol·

What’s your long term plan for music?

Become a star, then create stars.·

Honest opinion on the Headies nominee list?

Avnt seen it, but I heard my homie terry tha rapman was nominated! He must win o!·

Looking at music awards such as the headies, smva and the likes, do you think they are billing up to standard such as the grammies, BET and the likes?

Nah, not yet, we still have a loooong way to go when it comes to award shows, them dey try sha!·
